Hey John! …. I got a question!
Frequently Asked Questions (not in any particular order)

  1. What is HDTV?........ That’s a good one.  The FCC has mandated that all TV broadcasts convert to the new HDTV format.  This format is the first major upgrade of your TV signal in over 50 years and the image is incredible.  More detail, almost a 3 dimensional image and surround sound broadcast at the same time.
  2. How long before all the broadcast are in High Definition?........ The original time frame for all local stations to broadcast the new HDTV signal was 2006 but that is not going to happen.  Now it looks like 2008 or longer. Initially sales of HDTV set did not take off as fast as planned (simply because the price was too high and limited programming).
  3. Can I use my current set to receive the HDTV broadcast?........ No.  But your set will not be obsolete when they turn off the analog signal you are now receiving.  By that time there will be inexpensive (say $100) set top boxes that will convert the new digital signal so it will play on older sets.  You’re picture will look better on your old set but it will not be true High Definition.  You still have to get one of the new sets to get the full effect.
  4. Should I wait to buy a new TV?........ Not really.  The price of the new HDTV sets has dropped dramatically in the last 24 months. The price is comparable to what the analogue sets were selling for just a few years ago and some HDTV sets are even cheaper!
  5. Can I get High Definition signal over cable?........ Yes.  Time Warner is now offering a growing number of channels in HDTV and they are adding them as fast as technologically possible.  HDTV is also from satellite providers.
  6. Do I have to spend a fortune to have a good system?........ Not hardly.  The prices of just about every category in our business have gone down. You are also getting more product for the money.  We do build large systems but most of our customers are individuals that don’t want to talk to the “19yr old expert” or “the guy that also sells dryers” at the big stores and they know our prices are competitive.
  7.  I am building a new home (or remodeling) and I want to wire and install electronics for Home Theater, speakers throughout the house, current technology and what’s to come.  Can you help me?........ In a heartbeat, if you can dream it….we can design and install it!.  We have the largest and most experience install department in the area; more products to choose from and we can work with you, your homebuilder and architect to design a system to fit your specific requirements.
  8. A guy at (insert big box peddler store) told me that plasma TVs lose their gas and don’t last very long?........ It is amazing how long we have been hearing this one. NO! PLASMAS TVs DO NOT HAVE TO BE RECHARGED!!!  I don’t know where those sales people got that one.  They can dim slowly over time (as most TVs with phosphorous do) but it is over a very long time.
  9. John!….My back speakers don’t work!........ When we set up the system we balance the output for your listening location.  The recording engineer, in the case of movies, determines the information that comes out of the rear speakers.  These are call effect speakers for a good reason.  Sometimes there is very little information coming from the rear speakers.  If you want more output you can adjust the individual channels from your remote.
  10. You got some brands I have never heard of!...Why?........ Like other industries, we offer some specialty items are not widely known.  We choose equipment based on performance and value.  Many of our manufacturers have been in the AV business for decades and like us, cater to those individuals looking for the best.
  11. Hey I saw a unit at (insert large box peddler).  Can you give me the same price?........ Most of the time, unless it is a private label model or one that has been discontinued.  But they specialize in Good, Good and Good; here we carry Good, Better and Best.  As well as better products, we offer a wide range of services and calibration that they don’t even offer.  Their job is to get as many boxes as possible out of their warehouse and into your living room….we sell complete home technology solutions custom designed for your needs.
  12. How about financing?........Check out the financing page.  We make it as easy as possible to purchase from Goodyear Custom Audio Video.
  13. How big should the screen be?........ The biggest mistake that most people make is to get a screen too large for their viewing distance.  You noticed I said viewing distance not size of the room.  How far you will be from the screen determines the ideal size. A good general rule is not to get a screen with a diagonal large than 40% of the viewing distance.
  14. What about my warrantees?........ We stand behind every product we sell and handle the entire manufacturer’s warrantee.  We have been in Southeast Texas since 8 tracks were the latest technology; you don’t have that kind of service record without taking care of your customers.
